The international project PATINA / ПАТИНА explores memorial sites related to the Second World War and the Holocaust in countries of the former Yugoslavia.
Organized by Synnika (Frankfurt/Main) and Grupa arhitekata (Belgrade), the project brings together participants to develop multimedia works that engage with these sites and critically reflect on contemporary practices of remembrance.
From June 16 to 27, 2025, the project includes a research journey through Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia, visiting key antifascist memorials. During and after the trip, participants will develop individual responses to the sites in the form of artistic or research-based contributions.
Participants come from diverse fields such as visual and performing arts, art history, journalism, design, social and historical sciences, architecture, and photography. The project fosters interdisciplinary exchange between creative and theoretical approaches, aiming to generate new synergies and innovative formats.
In addition to the journey, a program of lectures and workshops will provide further context and create space for critical dialogue on cultures of remembrance. The outcomes of the project will be published in both an online and a print publication.
PATINA / ПАТИНА is curated by Jelica Jovanović, Naomi Rado, and Mathias Weinfurter, with production management by Anna Boldt.
The project is a joint initiative by Synnika e.V. and Grupa arhitekata, funded by the Foundation EVZ.
